Sarpsborg kirke har en tradisjon med Luciakonsert i kirken klokka sju om morgenen. Det er veldig populært for kirken er fylt til randen. Alle lys i kirken er slukket når den vakre sangen fra Luciakoret lyder og Lucia kommer inn med levende lys på hodet, og de andre med lys i hendene. Det er så stemningsfullt og fint. Kari prest innledet så fint med å minne oss om at lyset skal vinne over mørket, for det har Gud lovet. Sarpsborg Church has a tradition of Saint Lucy concert in the church at seven in the morning. It is very popular and the church is filled to the brim. All the lights in the church are off when the beautiful song from the Lucia choir sounds, and Lucia comes in with candles on her head, and the others with candles in their hands. It is so beautiful. Kari, the priest, started so well by reminding us that light shall win over darkness, because that is God's promise.

Luciadagen er til minne om ungpiken Lucia fra Sicilia som led martyrdøden under en kristendomsforfølgelse, og senere ble Santa Lucia. Historien forteller at hun nektet å gifte seg med en hedning og ga medgiften sin til de fattige. Det sies også at hun gikk med mat til kristne som gjemte seg i katakombene på grunn av forfølgelsene. Da skal hun ha hatt lyskrans på hodet for å kunne se i de mørke underjordiske katakombene. Hun minner oss om å spre lys og glede. Saint Lucy's Day commemorates the young girl Lucy from Sicily who suffered martyrdom during a Christian persecution, and later became Saint Lucy. History tells that she refused to marry a heathen and gave her dowry to the poor. It is also said that she provided food for Christians who were hiding in the catacombs because of the persecution. Then she should have had candles on her head to see in the dark underground catacombs. She reminds us to bring light and joy.
In Norway, the day is most celebrated in kindergartens and schools.

Vår lille Lucia er fra begynnelsen av 1980 tallet. Den ble laget av et sett fra Panduro, og har vært i bruk på Luciadagen hvert år siden da :) Da vi gikk ut av kirken idag fikk vi lussekatt og gløgg. Lussekatten tok jeg med hjem og delte med min kjære mann. Our little Lucia is from the early 1980s. It was made from a set from Panduro Hobby, and has been in use on the Saint Lucy's Day every year since then :) When we left the church today we got Lussekatt and gløgg. The Lussekatt I brought home and shared with my dear husband. The concert was broadcast live on local newspaper online, so he had watched it there. Lussekatter is a kind of bun made special for the Saint Lucy's Day. They are originally Swedish. They have traditional shapes, and should be made with saffron. I don't use saffron when I make them. Gløgg is the Scandinavian version of Mulled wine. It can be made with or without alcohol, the one we got in church was without.
