Yesterday there was a heavy hailstorm with hail as big as peas.
It looked like the ground was covered with polystyrene balls :)
PRIMSTAV - SOMMERDAG - SUMMERDAY
According to the old Norwegian calendar Primstaven, it is the first Summer day today 14. April. Then the Primstav was turned from the winter side to the summer side. The symbol of Summer Day is often a tree or a branch. In ancient times, there were many weather signs associated with such days.
"Old weather signs:
The way the weather is this day, it will be all summer. Sun and calm weather herald a fine summer, while rain and wind herald a stormy summer. If it snows on the Summer day, it will snow seven more times before spring. And - if it were to be so wrong; as close as the snow falls, so close will it be with insects for the summer. "
Today it is beautiful sunny weather, and there is little wind, so it sounds well for the summer! It is good it's not like the weather was yesterday 😃
You can read more about Primstaven in a post HERE
Here it is freezing each night. The flowers of orchard trees are burnt and the crops won’t be normal this year. I hope you read right and that Summer will be normal.
SvarSlettI wish you a good day.
I am hoping for a good Summer, it has been a beautiful sunny day here too. I am so glad that the snow has gone.
SvarSlettThat must have been some hail storm! I hope your garden didn't suffer too much, though I have watched nature make remarkable recoveries after being battered with hail. Enjoy your warm weather :)
Her går vi 'vinter' i møte, uten snø, heldigvis!
SvarSlettThat was an impressive amount of hail. I hope none of your plants were damaged. Here we had a most beautiful sunny day so if this is what we get all summer it will be lovely.
SvarSlettI love weather lore! What a unique tradition with the board being turned over for summer! You got so much hail! I hope it did not knock down any plants.
SvarSlettI get the biggest kick out of hubby, Kjell (from Toensberg), who says there are two Summers in Norway: one white and one green.
SvarSlettHa-ha, I think he is right :) I have also heard from a Somali friend, that African refugees who come to Norway say that it is one white and one green winter here. And the green one is worst because then they do not heat in the houses :)
