A NOISY SATURDAY / EN STØYENDE LØRDAG

Another old embroidery has become  a new bag. The embroidery is beautiful worked in Twist-stitches, I think it is stitches typical for Sweden.  The blue fabric is from a flea market.  I learned the word "upcyckling" about projects like this,  from the blogger Olde Dame Holly

Normally it is quiet and peaceful all weekend here. But right now, the company Homenet is laying cables for a new fiber network in our area. And usually they only work Monday to Friday, but they are probably  behind schedule. So Saturday morning at eight o'clock they started digging in the sidewalk of our quarter. Our house is right next to the sidewalk, so there was a lot of both shaking and noise when they were digging outside here. They worked until 2 pm. But then they were finished past our house, so there will be a little less noise when they start again tomorrow.

Lørdagsutsikt fra stuevinduene våre:  Saturday's View from our living room windows:

There have been few finished crafts lately. During a cleanup I found many skeins of Drops Muscat cotton yarn I bought many years ago, probably ten years ago! The plan at the time was to crochet a jacket, I tried to start on it. But quickly found out that it was not something I wanted now. So I found a sweater pattern I would rather knit. It is knitted  top down. But I found that the size I had started on was way too big. So I had to frog it and start at a smaller size. But after the rib, I did not get the pattern to go up in the rounds. And found that I had counted the wrong number of stitches when I cast on. Then it was just to frog and start again for the third time. Now I have finished the pattern part on the yoke, but really think it still looks a bit big. I think I will knit down to split off for the sleeves, and try it again then. Do not know if I can bear to frog and start again !! Then I think I will use a different pattern. Or to use it as an  oversized sweater. The yarn is in a lovely warm brown color, the color is not for sale anymore, so if there is too little yarn I can add some stripe pattern with a different color at the end.

Now I have been working the whole month with this knitting back and forth and was so bored, so now I had to take a break and knit something quick and easy. I knitted a pair of wrist warmers, which is the May pattern in Brit Strikkenerds Mitten KAL. Their name is Autumnal Mitts, and the designer is Jo Bangles. They were quick to knit on needles 3.5mm with Safir Garn from Spar Kjøp.

And a view from the countryside by Vister today as well!

  1. Your new bag is beautiful! I can never have enough of those. I use them for my knitting and crochet projects so I can keep all yarn, tools, notes together. Needless to say, I have several. The good part is that I can pick up any one at any time and everything is all in one place to work on the project again.

Your brown sweater is also beautiful. You might consider making a capelet with it if you decide not to finish it as a sweater. As you surely know, capelets are so very comfy in cool weather when you're sitting and knitting, driving, etc. Our daughter, Catherine, wears them in her office. The style allows for freedom of her arms to work on the computer, write, etc. It's also a great style for anyone who is in a wheelchair because it is so easy on/off.

I hope your neighborhood is more quiet now! :)

    Hugs from Ohio!

  3. Your brown sweater would be lovely as a cape, too! I have such difficulty with arms that everything I made was a cape or a shawl, ha ha. Fiber optic cable is so good to have. Only our expensive areas have it here in our city. The new construction areas require it, and they also have no electrical wires above ground, so it is pretty there. I love your latest upcycled bag, so pretty! I want to investigate how to do those twist stitches.

  4. The bag is beautiful. I love the mittens too - this is a FREE download on the 'Ravelry' site, I have just discovered. Maybe I will make some for later in the year.

  5. The embroidered insert in the blue bag is very pretty. The brown yarn project looks very challenging. I hope it all works out.
